Great uses for cursed items ...

...we KRANG!ed a Mind Flayer over the head with a 1e Helm of Opposite Alignment, and got a new CG Henchman, IIRC. That was fun! :D

Another time, we took apart a trap, and got the vial of Sleep gas out of it, and used it to Sleep a bunch of Orcs in the room down the hall!

Cursed magical jewelry can't be told from normal, of course, and sells just as well... At least until the jeweller tells you "No thanks, you've sold me too much cursed stuff!" :p

I forget what its name was, but there was a 1e gem that attracted monsters, and couldn't be gotten rid of, without Remove Curse, or somesuch... Anyway, it was a joke with one of the PCs in our group to take it around and sell it to every jeweller in every town we came to, and then it would always reappear in his pocket, later on! ;) (The weird thing was, he played a very selfish Paladin, too!) :(
was that the Jewel of Attacks?

i'm terrible with remembering magic items.

In the original Baldur's Gate game, you could use the +3 Cursed Berzerking sword to defeat the sirines. You'd give the sword to one guy, a tough fighter, and have him encounter the sirines. The sirines would try to charm the fighter and have him attack the rest of the party, but the sword would force him into a berzerk rage and the sirines were easy pickings. You sat back, watched the slaughter from afar, and when he camled down, you would go in and cast remove curse.

Love that tactic.

That is hilarious. And an excellent tactic, to boot.

Heh, I remember doing something similar with Minsc and his rage ability. Just send him in solo while crazed, the Sirens charm him and oops, look at that, no more enemies around... looks like I've got to start killing my allies.

That was a hoot.

A bag of devouring along with some copper pipes and a decanter of endless water and you've got indoor plumbing. Works great for long sea or spelljammer voyages. No smelly latrines.

I don't think the bag would appreciate that...

I think the classic use of a simple, cursed item was the good ole trusty Sword -1 that couldn't be gotten rid of. Great for situations where you've been captured and disarmed. Oops, now you have a sword again and your captor is dead.

I never thought of that! That's beautiful!

I used the cursed Everstriking Sword from a Dragon Magazine once; the party's paladin LOVED this weapon, since he had plenty of hit points and a good THACO to begin with. In desperation, he'd even use it as a missile weapon - I ruled it did 19 damage to him to make up the difference in the "to hit", and hit the target regardless. The thing would magically return to him, so he had a cursed weapon he was loath to get rid of! :)

Where did you climb with it?

all over the place, kuo-toa lairs, underdark, I'm sure I used it in an otyugh lair. Never once cleaned it. Found a bag of holding and thought great I'll put my cool stuff in it. It ate the stuff and now its working off it's debt so to speak.
