Another question:

Can the bonuses from Mage Bane go above +5 ? Would a +5 mage bane longsword be +7 against a sorceror ?
Yes, the bonus would be +7. And a +5 magebane dragonbane longsword would be +9 against dragons

If a +5 magebane weapon was +7 vs a given creature (say it had SLAs), and it had DR X/epic, would the weapon bypass it?

glass.

I'd say no since it's not an epic magic item, although I can't remember the definition of DR n/epic.

An adventure @ wizards.com had a version of magebane enchantment before Complete Arcane. You could choose certain type of spellcaster against which the enchantment was, or two domains. So you could choose cleric-with-Good-or-Law-domain-bane or bard bane.

This was in an adventure, not long ago.

Anyway, I think I'd ban magebane from my campaign or drop the +2 to-hit/dam, leave the +2d6 dam, and raise it to +2 enchantment. Pretty much like Holy. Hmm, this would make a pretty good enchantment for the Occult Slayer of my group.

Yes, it would.

DR X / Epic can be overcome by an Enhancement bonus of +6 or greater. What's the enhancement bonus of your sword against that creature? +7. :)
