Greater Turning and Vampires

Hello,

I've searched the forums (unsuccessfully) and scanned many books, but I can't find a ruling on how greater turning works in relationship to vampires. My initial reaction is that while it may be possible to reduce a vampire to 0 hp and force it to gaseous form by this method, that outright destruction still requires the methods described in the SRD.

If anyone can point me to a specific ruling on this topic I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

It destroys them sadly. That greater turning is a really obnoxious ability. It has the potential to wreck important NPC, but also may go unused for an entire campaign.

Fast Healing (Ex)
A vampire heals 5 points of damage each round so long as it has at least 1 hit point. If reduced to 0 hit points in combat, it automatically assumes gaseous form and attempts to escape. It must reach its coffin home within 2 hours or be utterly destroyed. (It can travel up to nine miles in 2 hours.) Any additional damage dealt to a vampire forced into gaseous form has no effect. Once at rest in its coffin, a vampire is helpless. It regains 1 hit point after 1 hour, then is no longer helpless and resumes healing at the rate of 5 hit points per round.

It was one of the first things I ever house-ruled. I'd rather give a cleric short range range-touch on all Cure Wounds and Inflict Wounds spelll as the sun domain ability.

Hmmm...well, I guess I'll just have to ensure that my vampires take improved turn resistance as a feat, and keep the fights localized to Unhallowed areas. That and a bunch of low level undead to soak the turns oughta dismay those Pelor-worshipping, holy-rolling Radiant Servants and paladins...grumble grumble grumble...

Well, thanks Frank! :)
