Greatest Adventures of All Time. Where Can I Find the List? ADD: And the Debate.

Ulric

First Post
Been reading about the history of different modules and adventures on wikipedia. Some of them say, "Ranked 12th greatest adventure of all time" or 10th greatest of all time etc... So, where can I get the complete list of "Greatest Adventures of All Time"? And where did this list come from?

P.S. Where can I get (buy) these adventures? Is RPGNOW my best bet?

Thanks.

ADD: Oh, and I think that RPGNOW or DriveThuRPG should offer all these pdfs as a bundle at a good price. I bet lots of people would buy them together as a bundle. Who do I suggest this to?

The list is most likely the one from Dungeon #116, which featured the "30 Greatest Adventures of All Time".

You can get them as pdfs, or you can get them from Ebay if you prefer hardcopy. Picking up old D&D stuff is easy and cheap on Ebay, assuming that you are patient and aren't after anything rare.

I wish I knew other than ebay. If you can get the 1ed Tome of Horrors, yes this is a killer module, I think your group will have the best time trying to survive.

Can someone post the list?
Sure. I don't think that this is breaking Dungeon's copyright (er, well, not much anyway) as the article concerned additionally has mini-reviews from industry bigwigs (and Psion too, iirc), descriptions of defining moments etc. Someone smack me if this is not OK, and I'll remove the post. In fact, you can smack me anyway, because I like it like that.

Hmmm. Anyhow. The list:

30. Ghost Tower of Inverness
29. The Assassin's Knot
28. The Lost City
27. The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh
26. City of Skulls
25. Dragons of Despair
24. City of the Spider Queen
23. The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun
22. The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth
21. Dark Tower
20. The Scourge of the Slave Lords
19. Against the Cult of the Reptile God
18. The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan
17. Ruins of Undermountain
16. The Isle of Dread
15. Castle Amber
14. Dead Gods
13. Dwellers of the Forbidden City
12. The Forge of Fury
11. The Gates of Firestorm Peak
10. Return to the Tomb of Horrors
9. White Plume Mountain
8. Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil
7. The Keep on the Borderlands
6. The Desert of Desolation
5. Expedition to the Barrier Peaks
4. The Temple of Elemental Evil
3. Tomb of Horrors
2. Ravenloft
1. Queen of the Spiders

Let the pointless squabbling over the rankings begin....

In fact, I'll start it.

How is Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh ranked only 27th? It's by far the best low-level module ever produced. And as a template for module (adventure) design, it is nearly flawless. It's a far better module than anything in the Top 5, with the possible exception of Ravenloft.

Bah. This list is clearly based on some criteria with which I don't personally agree. Why wasn't I consulted? Why?! WHY?!!!

Are you sure you are posting in the correct thread? I recall another forum where this was a more appropriate response. ;)

They had a list of ten of the best Dungeon Magazine adventures in that issue too. But, alas, no explanation or capsule reviews of 'em.

10. "Siege of Kratys Freehold", Ted James Thomas Zuvich, issue #33
9. "The Forgotten Man", Steve Devaney, issue #75
8. "The Lich-Queen's Beloved", Christopher Perkins, issue #100
7. "The Lady of the Mists", Peter Aberg, issue #42
6. "Eye of Myrkul", Eric L. Boyd, issue #73
5. "Life's Bazaar", Christopher Perkins, issue #97
4. "Into the Fire", Grant and David Boucher, issue #1
3. "Kingdom of the Ghouls", Wolfgang Baur, issue #70
2. "The Harrowing", Monte Cook, issue #84
1. "The Mud Sorcerer's Tomb", Michael Shel, issue #37.

1. Queen of the Spiders

Is this Monte Cook's Queen of the Spiders module? Or is it really Queen of the Demonweb Pits?

Edit: Oh, it's the mega-compilation AD&D module. Monte's module is called Queen of Lies.
