Greatest roll ever

Nice stories

That rememebers me of a nice fight: Party (level 23) vs. Lord Grazz't (yes, the version with some 60 HD)... I'm the DM. It should only be a short fight, the demon lord wanted the PCs alive. He waded into melee with his two eeevil bastard swords, and put up a nice smile :]

The cleric, the druid and one of the wizards were already unconcious.

The paladin was still standing, badly wounded, and wielded a holy avenger. Grazz't has put up a couple of defensive spells, so his AC was really high. We have a house rule for critical hits, one of the possible options is a deadly wound (the creature loses 10 to 60 % of her FULL hp per round after the hit, starting in the same round)

The paladin's player rolls the attack, including the last smite evil. He rolls a 20. Everybody at the table was cheering ("Get him!"). The guy confirmed with another 20...and rolled up the deadly wound option... :D

I sat there silent, because the last thing I expected was Grazz't in trouble. The player rolled the damage points and came up with nearly 550 points...

Grazz't was then VERY busy to heal himself before he finished off the paladin.

Nevertheless, the player grinned and said:" At least I've beaten the smile out off Grazz't's face."

Indeed he did. It was a very cool session. :D

Greatest roll I ever saw: A friend of mine was playing in a "miniatures" tournament way back around GenCon 13 or 14 (yeah, I'm old)
He was in an event put together by Erol Otus called something like Le Grande Tourne des Monstres Rubres......basically a battle between rubber monsters. Everyone had to bring one as the entry fee & then he got out some really great old rubber toys with specific stats and powers and they had at it. Kind of like a Battle Royale from WWF. It came down to two people, my friend and the girlfriend of some guy who went out really early. She had barely any idea what was going on. He was left with like 85 hit points and she was down to about 3. They rolled round initiative and she went first. Her monster had 15 tubes on it back that was set up to fire a 1d6 fireball and she had to roll to see how many she could use by rolling a d20. So first she rolled an 18 or 19 for the number of missiles. Then, she picks up 15d6 and rolls them.....14 6's and a 5! 89 points of damage! Needless to say, there was a second of stunned silence, then everyone went crazy. Unbelieveable.

Best roll ever for my old college group was during the AD&D days.

ME: So what do you do?

PLAYER: I kill the DM.

ME (laughing): Roll!

PLAYER: Natural 20!

We were using the old Good Hits and Bad Misses chart, so I had him roll on that.

Double-zero. Beheaded, immediate death.

We determined that the world imploded at that moment. Game over! :D

About a week ago, the same scene as when the Rogue made the fake DC 41 Reflex save, we were in a battle. One Hobgoblin was running away. He was about 150 feet away, I think. The Rogue rolls to hit and gets a 20. He then confirms with a 20. Though not a 20, the third roll still came up with an 18. From rock to tree to head and we had a dead Hobgoblin.

In 1E D&D, the DM dropped a dragon on the 6th level party. Completly meant to make us run and hide which everybody did except for the thief. He raises his crossbow and states "I aim for the left eye" and the dragon dives for him and the rest of the party scrambles to run away. Using the DMs homebrew called shot rules, he adds up all the modifiers and states "you'll need a natural 20" which he roles. Using the DMs house rules crit system, there are several percentile rolls made at great odds and then some nice damage rolls, and eventually, to the dismay of the DM, a dead dragon hitting the ground.

Best rolls I've ever seen was at a game convention in an Axis & Allies board game. Britain had 15 transports and plenty of troops and eastern Europe was wide open and the only navy the Germans had was one sub in the Baltic. Germany attacks with the sub and takes out a transport. 15 dice later, the sub is still alive. It goes for another round of combat and kills another transport. 14 more dice rolled and no 1's to kill the sub. In less than 20 rounds of combat, the lone sub managed to roll a 1 or 2 on all but a few rolls while not a single 1 was rolled on over a hunderd rolls of a d6. By time it was over all the games in the room had stopped and everybody was watching.
