Other...

Best villain depends on the boundaries...
  • Literary: Iago.
His "you call me evil?" speach tops the cake.
  • Dungeons and Dragons: Vecna
As another posted here, go through Vecna Lives.
  • Mythical: Lucifer
Single handedly responcible for the downfall of humanity; leads a war agaist a foe he knows to be omnipitant and manages to carry 1/3 of the heavenly host with him.
  • Historical: Hitler
Anyone that can bring the entire world to the brink of destruction is a villain extraordinaire.
  • Fictional (Sci-Fi): Khan
The Wrath of Khan is still the best Star Trek movie, story and acting ever. In fact, given his dialog, I place him above Vader... who can forget lines like "Because he tasks me! He tasks me, and I shall have him!" and "Have you herd of the Klingon proverb that says that revenge is a dish best served cold?"
  • Fictional (Fantasy): The White Witch
Sorry Tolkien fans, but I read the Narnia tales long before Tolkien, and the White Witch stands as the consumate fantasy villain for me.

I put the Wicked Witch of the West in the same category as Maleficent.

I highly recommend reading Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. Elphaba, a.k.a. the Witch, is definitely the heroine. The Wizard is a despicable, though mostly off-camera villain, and poor Dorothy, in the end, is basically a pawn.

It's a great book that, in it's own words, describes "the nature of good and evil."

Iago is probably the most 'villianous' but my favorite is The Mule.

The Mule! Damn! I cannot believe I forgot that guy! I still think Khan makes a more memorable villain, but the whole story of the mule, and how individualist will over-ride mass minded historical tides is excellent!

Re: Other...

I'd have to give Vader the nod over Doom. I've been trying to force choke my brother for years becuase of his splendid example. One day it will work!

Gerald Ford. And his minions.

Ishamael from the Wheel of Time. I just love that guy. Another thing about the WoT, alot of the villians just don't realise they're villians, which I find REALLY ironic, and makes the series that much better =)

You cannot even begin to talk about evil villians without mentioning one name. A name that towers above the rest. Hitler? Worked for him. O.J.? They're pals. Crop Circles? He's behind them.

Of course, I can only mean one person.....

Bert, from Sesame Street. Don't believe me?

Here's the proof:

Very few people who perform evil acts consider themselves evil. Ego is an incredible factor.

Victor Von Doom, for example, believed he should run the world because nothing could do it better then him.

Of course, if it were not for those evil Fantastic Four.. he may have already brought the world into a Golden Age of peace and prosperity.
