This is pretty much what I'm talking about. The whole greatsword-caster option isn't specifically prohibited by the rules. If you're going to add that prohibition in, what does it add to the game? Is it fixing anything that needs balancing? Not IMO. Does it add to the fun? Not IMO; as this discussion shows, it bogs down the game in rules lawyering.

The classes and PC builds for whom this is even an issue already have a number of balancing factors built-in. Clerics and druids don't have the offensive spell power that wizards/sorcerers do; rangers and paladins can't cast spells until 4th-6th level, and their spell lists are limited; multiclassed and combat-feat-taking wizards/sorcerers are generally sub-optimal choices. Why makes things worse for these PCs?
