[Green Ronin] Announcing M&M SUPERLINK

Since the release of the Mutants & Masterminds RPG, we’ve had a lot of requests from people who want to publish compatible material.

One sticking point is the Open Game License itself. It specifically prohibits you from claiming compatibility with other Trademarks (like Mutants & Masterminds) without entering into a separate agreement with the Trademark holder (Green Ronin, in this case). We are not willing to just give away the Mutants & Masterminds logo to anyone that asks, as we have worked hard to make it a mark of quality. Nor, however, do we want to shut down the creation of compatible material using the Open Game License. M&M wouldn’t exist without the OGL after all.

Our solution to this: M&M Superlink.

Very interesting, that seems like a nice way of dealing with the OGL issues, and I love M&M's especially the peanut ones, so a superlink M&M seems like a geat idea.

On a serious note, this seems like a great idea to have others increase the breadth of M&M and let some publishers get to use a game system they would normally not be allowed to do write for.

Kudos GR!

I'm kind of partial to the peanut M&M's myself, although I do also like the Peanut Butter M&M's.

OK, kidding aside, smart move GR. This is just another example of why I think your company is top notch.

Forgive me for asking but ... why not offer a royalty-free MnM Trademark License with nearly the same restrictions as d20 Trademark License but allow certain PI to be used (for example, the Power Point mechanics and description)?

The same reason that WotC gives us all the d20 logo to work with, but reserves the D&D logo for itself.

Okay, how about a royalty-free SUPERLink Trademark License?

I guess you want quality control over the compatible Work, hence the email inquiry and submission.

Query: Does this SUPERLink license allow use of your PI in one's body of work, such as Power Point allotment?

Another Example

This is just another example of how cool everyone at Green Ronin is, and how much they support the OGL movement.

Cheers to Chris, Nicole and Hal for being the first in and continuing to give 100% effort even 3 years later.

M&M Superlink IS a royalty-free license.

If you want to use our PI, you still have to ask for permission (and we encourage you to).
