Green Ronin first delved into the Bronze Age in Testament: Roleplaying in the Biblical Era. Now the Trojan War picks up where Testament left off, bringing Homer's Iliad to life. Fight under Achilles for the honor of Helen or stand up with Hector and defend Troy with your life. The Trojan War gives you everything to bring Bronze Age Greece to life, including new classes, feats, and magic items, and game stats for all the war's famous heroes. An update of Testament's mass combat system is also included. Gods plot, chariots thunder, and hoplites charge beneath the walls of Troy. Battle lines have been drawn. Which side are you on?

Modern Magic
A Sourcebook for the d20 System
Written by Eric Cagle, Mike Montesa, and Mat Smith
Cover by James Ryman
80 pages, perfect bound
MSRP: $17.95
GRR1504
ISBN: 1-932442-24-3

How would modern life be different if magic really worked? What if magic were as available to the common citizen as cars and jewelry and prescription medications? Or what if magic worked like the Wiccans and the Order of the Golden Dawn believe? And what would happen if the world's armies started using wands and potions along with their guns and bombs? The Game Mechanics (Martial Arts Mayhem and the Modern Player's Companion) got together three d20 System game designers and asked them to explore these very questions. The result is Modern Magic: a fascinating look at applied mysticism-and with a contemporary sensibility. Inside you'll find spells with names like plain brown wrapper and welding touch, and magic items like the potion bottle opener or the police whistle of backup. You'll find "low-magic" rules for modern magical belief systems, including Wicca and Vodoun, and a new advanced class just for the kind of ceremonial casters required by these magic systems. And for military-based campaigns, there are three new campaign models based on magic in the military: "rare and secretive," "available and specialized," and "common as dirt"-each with its own advanced class, such as the Arcane Spec-Op, Thaumaturgical Specialist, and the Magic Grunt. With all the options presented in Modern Magic, every modern d20 System campaign should be able to find a model that suits their tastes.

Just the other day I was in my local gamestore, and I was thinking, "Man, I really want a d20 book on Troy. I hope Green Ronin is working on something like that."

And here it is. Great karma at work in the universe. I'm happy. :)

Apparently we have some kind of psychic link, because I was looking into releasing a "boxed set" done in a metal tin for GenCon. I thought, "Ha ha, no one has done that before and it's entirely unlikely another d20 publisher will hit upon that idea before the summer."

Get out of my brain, Bell!

No, no, no. You simply cannot have any more of my money.

Oh, who am I kidding. These sound great (and Troy d20 is going to be a lot of fun to read if it's as good as Testament)!!

What I want to know is how portable will Trojan War be to a non-historical world? I would love to drop Troy down in the middle of my homebrew world.

The Mystic Vistas stuff is completely d20, right? How different is the magic system for Trojan War? What are the possiblities of seeing an online web enhancement that allows for the use of Trojan war with the Vancian magic style of regular D&D? (That is, if the Mystic Vistas stuff is different.)

I haven't really looked at Testament or any of the other Mystic Vistas books that closely, as I try to only buy things that are mainstream D&D/d20 compatible (not OGL stuff).

And more importantly, does Trojan War have a full-sized pull-out map of Troy? :D

I'm not. Chris I might as well have my paycheck directly deposited to your company's account because it certainly won't stay in my bank account for any amount of time. It seems that everytime you make an announcement my "must-buy" list gets longer. With this and the Black Company I'm going to be in big trouble when she sees these books (because you know I'm going to buy them!). I'll have some explaining to do why my "must-buy" list keeps getting longer and not shorter. :(

Seriously Chris, you guys ROCK! GR is one of the best game companies out there coming out with better and better things.

Note: I'm really not mad at you, I'll just have to find the money someplace as well as an explanation. :)

Without speaking for Trojan War (which I expect to be a great book and I'm really thrilled it's coming out), I can say that Testament uses the Vancian magic system and most of the tropes of the d20 system. The only significant mechanical variation is the use of Piety instead of alignment, but even that's optional, and the special situations in the book that address Piety (eg. spells that do damage depending on Piety level) usually have notes to suggest how they'd be handled with conventional alignment.

So if d20 compatibility was the tipping point on whether or not you bought Testament, please try to give it another look.

Scott Bennie (author of Testament)

Chris, I need a good mass combat system for an upcoming product-- rather than reinvent the wheel, is there any way a publisher can get his hands on the OGC portion of the improved rules in advance?

For players' sake, I would rather not tread a divergent path.
