Green Ronin's Spellmaster - Experiences?

Lonely Tylenol

First Post
I was flipping through the Advanced Player's Manual and came across the Spellmaster. I looked over the mechanics, which are admittedly very nifty, but it was difficult in my brief perusal to determine how the class would operate in actual play.

So...has anyone played one? What is the class like at low levels, when sense magic checks are likely to fail some of the time, ruining the few slots you have? At medium levels, when you start to be able to cast spells more reliably and you start to get nifty abilities like spell resistance? How does the requirement for gathering energy play out? Is the class underpowered, overpowered, or just right?

If I hear good things about this class and the rest of the book, I may be tempted to pick it up, since it's not often I flip through a book in which I find something that catches my eye like this.

Really, the only class that even tempted me in the book was the Eldritch Weaver.

The spellmaster is okay. I would have to assume a world thicker with arcane casters than I do. I suppose it would draw those principally interested in a spontaneous casting without straying too far from the existing system. Interesting compromise.

The eldritch weaver is, of course, a rewrite of path magic from Dragon magazine. I used to play a path mage back in my 2nd ed. days. Lots of fun, that. So, yeah, I liked the look of that class too, but I've got a better idea of how it works in play just from reading it than I could glean of the spellmaster.
