Greyhawk as the "Official" Setting

Default, too, because so many of the game's classic names and references are Greyhawk references at their core. Tenser's Floating Disk, Mordenkainen's Sword, Rary's Mneumonic Enhancer and similar spells are all Greyhawk / Gygax campaign references.

The other common references above (elves w/ swords, dwarves at odds with orcs and goblins, halflings of the Hairfoot and Tallfellow varieties, etc) I'd argue are less Greyhawk tropes than repetitions of earlier ideas -- since they are all common to Tolkien, predating D&D.
