Greyhawk: Temple of Elemental Evil CRPG

Anyone think the makers of "the most faithful rendition of the 3E rules to date" will be ticked that about the time they release, the 3E rules are changing on them? :)

NWN was made in conjunction with WOTC to ensure the rules were followed....
Haven't heard if they are doing that with this comp game but it would make sense that they are if they want to use the rules to make the game work right.

Would like to know more about this game I have always loved playing and Dm'ing Temple of Elemental Evil games. Playing was a blast in the original and then when return came out we played in it again ....wow very fun game indeed.

I don't think it matters too much for the game devs. The Baldur Gate PC games came out during the trsnsition to 3e and they were cool.

In any case its hard to fully duplicate all the rules into a CRPG. NWN did a good job, but even they omitted some feats and skills, and even added a few just for the computer game. And to be honest many PnP rules don't translate well to CRPG anyway.

Since the core mechanics remain essentially the same, it shouldnt be a big deal. If the game comes out before the revised rules then its a non issue. But even if the release date is after the revised rules come out, I doubt the developers would delay or incur the cost of redoing parts of the CRPG.

Ultimately it doesn't matter, because most of the people who buy and play the game won't know anything about the tabletop rules.

the big thing for me in this game is they plan to implement item creation feats. Even if its jsut scrolls I'll be happy. I'll be happier with craft wonderous etc, but happy still with just scrolls.

I haven't played turn based since the old SGI games way back when like pool of radiance(not the new crappy version) so I don't know if I'll like turn based or not anymore. I think I will prefer it because I got tired of the hit the space bar right after X compleates his/her spell routine. The only thing I'm worried about for turn based fights are goon fights. The type of fights where I didn't bother with the space bar, and just had everyone attack. Those fights I want over quickly, and this might just slow them down.

Deeply flawed

Heya:

The "new crappy version" of Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor, while deeply deeply flawed, is greatly improved (to at least the deeply flawed level) by a "speed hack" that allows you to speed up or slow down gameplay. For example, hit the '8' key (to speed up) a couple times and instead of taking 30 seconds for a zombie to slowly trudge up to you, it takes just 3 seconds. A bit of a rubberbanding effect on slower computers, but them's the breaks.

Take care,
Dreeble
