[GRG] War of the Worlds Sourcebook

Gold Rush Games

First Post
Greetings, all! I'm fairly new to the forum. While I don't want to make a bad impression by popping in and making my first post an impersonal announcement, I also don't want to be accused of posting fluff. So I say, "Greetings!" to everyone. <waves>

I'd also like to mention that our latest product with d20 stats is now available in electronic format (PDF), with the printed version on the way and due out next month.

Action! Classics: The War of the Worlds Sourcebook

Can't select the text = BAD!

Also the section 15 isn't complete, it miss this:

Modern System Reference Document Copyright 2002, Wizards of the Coast, Inc.; Authors Bill Slavicsek, Jeff Grubb, Rich Redman, Charles Ryan, based on material by Jonathan Tweet, Monte Cook, Skip Williams, Richard Baker, Peter Adkison, Bruce R. Cordell, John Tynes, Andy Collins, and JD Wiker.

And your designation of open game content is all boxed text, some of the action rules are in boxed text, and I Imagine that you don't want to open those rules.

Otherwise the preview looks good.

edit: you should also say somewhere on the press release that it requires d20 Modern, that's not the default assumption with d20 system books.

*I was going to buy SG-1 for the spycraft rules and the sci-fi goodness, I think I'll buy d20 Modern due to the amazing sourcebook it gets from various publisher and I'll still buy SG-1*

edit2: if you want to sell the book as a dual stated book, you should seriously consider to provide d20 modern game statistic for the weapon and vehicle (the conversion document covers character not weapons or vehicles, but it doesn't look hard to do some).

Also, you should note that you aren't allowed to mention:
Sidewinder: Wild West Adventure
Spycraft
Mutants & Masterminds
T20 — The Traveller’s Handbook.
appart from section 15 of the OGL, unless you have their express permission (it's in the conversion document, after the skill section).

Still, the book is really nice.

Yup. See section 7 of the OGL.

That said, I don't have a problem with T20 being mentioned (I'm a huge WoW fan!). I would have liked to have known about it though.

Good job on the product! I'll be snapping up the print version too when it is released.

I'm confused. Where are any of the aforementioned games mentioned in our WotW sourcebook?

If we've inadvertantly committed an OGL faux pas, then I want to fix it imemdiately. I have no intention of releasing d20 and/or OGL products that are not in compliance with the respective licenses.

Thanks for the kind words, Hunter.

My apologies, it isn't within the WoW book but rather in your d20 conversion document.

As I said previously though, I don't have an issue with it (rather pleased in fact!).

You're quite welcome!

They aren't in WotW, they are in your conversion notes from d20 to Action.

Their is the incomplete section 15 and the mention of other books in GRGASCN01 (Action System conversion notes).

Also, seriously consider giving d20 Modern stats to vehicle and weapons. It seems easy enough (with your conversion notes for character) that it would be silly to not do it.

Vehicle:
Action! armor is translated in d20 Modern hardness
Action! Life point multiplied by 2 give d20 Modern hit point
Defense for vehicle is 10 minus size modifier

Weapon: reversing your method in the conversion notes
Damage:
6d6 -> 2d8
5d6 -> 2d6
4d6 -> 1d8
3d6 -> 1d6
2d6 -> 1d4
1d6 -> 1d3

I think I should ask money for doing this:D

Aha! <LOL> And I just did several searches through the WotW sourcebook looking for any instance of "Traveller," "Spycraft" and "Modern" and came up short. I was starting to think I'd lost it.

Well that does clear things up. Yes, I see that we did, indeed, mention them in the footnotes under the Skill conversion table. Hm. I agree that is an unauthorized use of Product Identity within our own Open Content.

I will remove those references from the doc, update the file and post it up asap.

As I said previously though, I don't have an issue with it (rather pleased in fact!).

Well, if you're the rights holder of the trademark (and I suspect it's actually FFE) a written letter of permission would allow me to keep it in. That seems impractical for something so trivial, however, so I'll just remove the references.

You'll still get the plug in the Section 15, of course. ;)

Say, if you'd like to send me a 1/2 page ad for T20, I'll happily add it to the PDF for a future update. Contact em privately at mark@goldrushgames.com if you're interested.

You're quite welcome! [/B][/QUOTE]
