[Grim Tales] Converting outside classes to a series of Talents

My sincere condolences.

I'm stunned at how incredibly cool it is that, given a major event like that, you still went out of your way to help a complete stranger. I think that reflects very highly on both you and your father.

Tormenet

Thank you, Tormenet, for your kind words. Helping others is something that heals me, and so I appreciate the opportunity you've provided.

In Service,
Flynn

As a note of something that may be of help in the future: along with the pure GT-SRD, the site will (over time, GT-SRD comes first) contain my own SRD collection of converted/adapted material fused with GT for my homebrew fantasy world. Sources will include the D&D rSRD, Arcana Unearthed, Unearthed Arcana, Iron Heroes, Medieval Players Manual, and many others. It will be seperate from the GT-SRD, but organized in a similar way.

By all that is holy, please stop. I'm drooling on my keyboard. I would like to be a part of this initiative if it becomes one.

My apologies, my friend,

My father passed away this weekend, and services were yesterday. I'm trying to focus on other things, but I have to admit that my suggestions below may not be to the best of my ability because of distractions. Still, I appreciate the chance to think about something else for a brief moment.

Flynn,

I'm sorry for your loss. And let me throw my thanks into the bucket for this post. Lots of goodness.

When things settle down, let me know if you need another player for your sword and planet. I'd love to get into a regular GT game and s&p is all the better.

I intend to start running the game in probably March or April of next year. (I have to finish my current v3.5 campaign and then take a brief break to avoid burn-out.) If you'd like however, feel free to contact me directly (jason dot flynn dot kemp at gmail dot com) and perhaps we could chat about it in the meantime.

Also, I'll probably run the occasional GT one shot between now and then, to see if I like the playing of the rules as much as I like the reading of them.

Enjoy,
Flynn

I'm glad to hear your enthusiasm, ragboy. As I have stated in other threads, such excitement fuels my desire for the project. I will make some form of public announcement when the GT-SRD (and thus the site in general) is complete.

black company magic with GT

My group and I are also starting a campaign that is attempting to blend Grim Tales with the Black Company. Really, we want just GT with the BC magic system. It seems like such a combination would fit the campaign world rather well. Would you (Tormenet) mind detailing some of the conversions that you have done in this regards?

What we did (are doing):
1. We took all of the magic skills and feats wholesale.
2. We took each of the magical magnitudes and made it them a Talent Tree (Smart, Dedicated, or Charismatic).
3. We make a Talent that allows the selection of the Talent feat (from BC). We're not sure this is the best way to do it, but it seemed somewhat analogous to the D&D thief being allowed to take a feat as one of his special abilities.
4. We are struggling with the definition of Caster Level. In BC is it 10 + Ability + 1/2 of your Wizard level. Since there are no Wizard levels or even class level that have to be "magical" levels, we are looking for something else to replace the wizard levels. Perhaps the number of "magical" talents? Since those are gained (roughly) every other level they would seem to work out, but that penalizes a player that doesn't focus on Talents.

Any ideas, corrections, questions, or statements of awe at our stupidity would be greatly appreciated (well maybe not that last one). :)

Thanks.

IIRC, Grim Tales has a Talent called Improved Caster Level, under the Magical Adept Talent Tree, that could suffice in place of the 1/2 Wizard level. You could also combine that Talent feat from BC with the basics of the Magical Adept Talent from the Magical Adept Talent Tree.

Just a thought,
Flynn

Miln,

Here is the thread you need. We hashed it out pretty well in this thread:

BCCS + GT Magic

Also, Henry has a nifty DC calculator for BC spells...I am sure he will send it to you ;)!

Thank you! This is perfect. I haven't read it all yet, I'm at work, but it looks to hit all the points. Thanks again!

If I have to beg, I will! Henry, if you read this, and you don't mind, I would greatly appreciate a copy.

Henry's file is here http://www.enworld.org/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=322

edit = embarrassing misspelling, and added a link to Henry's file
