GRIM TALES: Creature Creation (Spreadsheet)

Does anybody else have this? Anybody else having problems with it? I'm not sure if it's me, but I'm finding that a few of the options are password protected or otherwise unavailable for changing. I'm getting an error every time I try to change between natural attack types (IE bite, slam, etc) or trying to change between DR weakness types.

Loving this thing, otherwise. Got a whole homebrew world to populate with critters.

The password protection is mainly there to keep folks from changing fields they shouldn't change (and ruining their spreadsheet!) "Idiot-proofing," so to speak.

Any field you want to change should be blue. If it's not blue, you're not meant to change it.

Go to TOOLS > OPTIONS and select the VIEW tab.

In the bottom check-boxes, select (check) Row and Column Headers.

Then come back here and tell me what Row (#) and Column (XYZ) you are having trouble with.

FYI, I have finally talked the programmer into tackling a MM-style statblock improvement-- he's working on it as we speak. You will be able to click on the Statblock tab and see your creation's entry in MM format (and you can cut and paste).

So far it's ugly, but fairly functional. There are some calculations/modificatins it will not perform (assigning feats and skill points, frex) but it's better than transcribing.

You know, there's a "Comments" section at RPGnow where you can tell other folks how useful it is. ;)

44A - 48A under Full Attack

73B/C/D/E under Damage Reduction

That will be VERY useful. :) Currently I'm building them, checking the CR, then inputting the whole thing by hand into DMGenie just to have somewhere to store them. Stopped by RPGNow to leave a comment ... even used an exclamation mark. ;)

Click inside the box once and you should see an arrow appear, hanging just outside the lower right hand corner. Click that arrow and you will get a drop down menu that allows you to change the attack type.

Same for DR.

If that doesn't work for you, I'd guess you have a problem with either (a) macros or (b) your basic VB install...

Well, when you open the file, it should automatically open itself as a copy of the template. You can then just save the creature and you won't overwrite your original spreadsheet.

So for example in the last adventure I ran I now have grond.xls, wyrmlings.xls, and vermithraxus.xls, all in addition to the orginal .xlt file.

That solves simple storage-- but I can't get that statblock generator fast enough, man. I feel ya.

Yes, I see the drop-down, but when I try to select another option on that dropdown it tells me that the spreadsheet is password protected. Even with no Macro protection. That error seems to tell me that the protection you have on the other parts that SHOULDN'T be edited is affecting that one as well, as it's the same message I get when I try to change something not "in the blue". :)

I'm not having the same problem. Drop me an email.

I'll download the file myself to test it out-- and if there's a problem, resend it to everyone.

Works for me.

Anyone else reading who wants to confirm that it works for them in the current incarnation?

If it helps at all... I am using Microsoft Excel 2002 (10.6501.6714) SP3 on Windows XP 2002 SP2.

When I get home I will check to see if it works there.
