Grim Tales question. . .

Anything to make combat a little more lethal? (Especially to make those modern characters more afraid of guns and werewolves)

Not a Grim Tales rule, but I'm really liking Monte's WoD rule that crits do Con damage. Ouch!

Most guns in Grim Tales do 2 dice of damage, depending on caliber. Of course, all the rules you need to "design" firearms are there. PCs can be made suitably afraid of guns with... well, big guns and low massive damage thresholds.

To jump in, I've had good luck altering the flavor of games by just changing the damage threshold. You drop it from Con to (Con-5), and suddenly that 2d6 damage from your average handgun is a little scary for anyone, even without bad guys with Point Blank Shot.

(I tend to build bad guys cruelly, too. Guys who make their living shooting other people for a living really ought to have Improved Point Blank Shot (which works a lot like "Power Attack for Guns").)

Rules about losing your class defense bonus when flat-footed, combined with a house rule about having your massive damage threshold drop by 10 when you're flat-footed, and suddenly a werewolf leaping out of the shadows is pretty darn scary. (Note: I'd either use the Damage Threshold -5 all the time, or the -10 when flat-footed -- not both in combination.)

Of course, if he put up a PDF of the complete Grim Tales for sale on OBS he could withdraw the money from any sales and use it to pay for his sandwich later the same day...

My money's waiting... ;)

Cheers,

* Assuming he had a PayPal account, and had it all set up so he could get money straight away... but that's just ruining the argument :)

You know, I have a copy of GT, Slavelord of Cydonia and the PDF sub-rules, and Mythic Heroes, and I would still fork over cash for a PDF version of the main rulebook. And I'm not even running a game right now.

That's another day of Quiznos for you....
