Grippli and Lupins Return!

hey, way cool! :) i'm curious to see how this turns out. which issue?

this makes me feel a need to mention an idea i've had lately, well actually a recurring idea that came back to me recently. would it not be cool for us to write an article(s) to submit to Dragon and/or Dungeon featuring our conversions?

for Dragon though, it can't just be a bunch of conversions thrown together - it would have to be a legitimate article. you know, it would have to be a theme and some text besides the monsters as to why they fit together and all. and there would have to be research. but i think that would be totally cool. we can make a plan for that after i finish my current project (ah, another reason to step things up and make progress!)

In regards to the Winning Races thing, I attended the Dragon/Dungeon seminar at GenCon, and the one thing I threw out was that it'd be both nice and useful to have a monstrous-style stat block in the article also. Matthew Sernett wrote it down, and seemed interested, so hopefully we'll see that in a few issues.

Issue #323 for grippli, #324 for lupin.

Until recently, I'd have advised you to not even try submitting a conversion article. The old Dragon writer's guidelines said that they were not interested in conversions (despite the fact that many showed up). I haven't read the new guidelines in great depth, but I haven't seen any "no conversions" clause this time around. In fact, the guy who did the grippli stated in another thread that he submitted a different toad-like race, and one of the editors suggested making it the grippli. So the new regime may be pro-conversion, so let's give it a try.

Count me in on any such project. I've got a few others I'm pitching them as well.

:D i felt much the same way, in about the same chronology. ;) all things change in time, perhaps the editors are ready now...

Jonathan Richards is a big CC-fan, and having numerous printed Dragon articles, he might be willing to give us some pointers. Erik Mona - is he only running things at Dungeon mag? he might just be able to help us also.

You know, I can't help thinking that an article on the diurge would write itself. It's probably too tough for Winning Races, but could make a nice Ecology-style article.

For Winning Races, the brownie might be a good choice, as I continually see people demanding its return in any monster book thread. Same goes for the giff from Spelljammer. The urd would be another nice one to bring back. Phantons could be fleshed out and included as well (especially since Mike McArtor is a big Mystara fan).

i started a thread here to get suggestions for Winning Races. :)

and the diurge might work just fine - i have seen before articles that just updated old articles, so you never know. :) and yes, the scant info presented in the original article would form a basis for a whole article...
