Guest Players Playing NPCs?

It works well only if the guest player plays the role assigned.

Our "guest" played him as a bloodthirsty troublemaker, charging into hand to hand combat, arguing with PCs and vital NPCs alike, demanding an equal share of the treasure (when the NPC had signed on for half-share because he was working for an ally of the party).

In my very small and limited gaming circle, I know very few players who I could trust to handle the role properly. That one guest you have reminds me of two "guest" players we've had involved in a couple games. I call them "guest" players because they have never been consistent. If they come, they're more for out of game social time, killing NPCs and taking anything they can get. One of these problem players lives next door, and during the middle of the game session, left, went home to get something to eat, and came back. At the time his character was unconscious (through friggen actions of his own), so he was bored.
