Guide to the Iron Kingdoms?

A2Z

Adventurer
I've started running the Witchfire trilogy and I have to say so far it's great. I really enjoy the setting and the website has been very helpful. I've got to say though... I'm jonesing for more. :) I can't wait for the Guide to come out. The website says it'll be out in may. Is it on schedule? Will it be ready in less than two months?

I hope so. I have a lot of questions about the setting that the adventures don't answer. Especially about the elves.

Same here

I´m building a group of players for the trilogy, and there´s some info I can´t give based on the adventures..I´d need the sourcebook for that, and I´m anxiously awaiting it´s release...soon, please :D

...So where does that put the sourcebook? A lot further out than anyone is going to be happy with. What the Monsternomicon has taught us is that Brian and I can't do all of the artwork for every single product and get the stuff out when you guys are still going to want it. So, for the sourcebook, we've changed gears and will bring in new talent, but it's still going to take us a while to get it all together. The artwork is not the only thing left to develop, but at this stage, it is one of the more daunting tasks ahead of us. Right now, we are forecasting the Sourcebook for November....

Oh crap...how many of you are still with me? Hello? Anyone out there?

Don't worry, we have a plan. This is not an official product announcement, and is subject to change, but what we are examining right now, and in large part is based on your previous feedback, is the possibility of a much smaller product that will provide you with the necessities to continue or begin your campaigns. This product would be inserted between the Monsternomicon and the Sourcebook in the production schedule. It would not affect the Sourcebook's release greatly, but it would hopefully reset the doomsday clock and buy us some more time on getting the sourcebook into all of your hands. I won't say more on that because we're in the process of working out details, but we will keep you informed as things progress.

This announcement makes me want to run Scarred lands now instead of IK. I really, really, really was hoping to run IK with the module but waiting to Nov. is entirely impossible. We shall see what happens in the meantime but I am going to go out and purchase the SL setting now instead of the IK material as I was counting on the time that this was to be released to coincide with the release of the IK material.

Now if someone can give me some setting info on the surrounding area i can survive until nov. if not then the pc's are going to Scarred lands...

That's too bad. While it won't keep me from playing the trilogy it is disappointing. I can understand though. They are a small company and you can never tell when something will be delayed. Oh well, I look forward to when it does come out.

Trust me when I say this:

When the Monsternomicron comes out (in June) you will have plenty of game material to use for the IK...

I dunno. The IK is a very very specific campaign setting. It's very hard to play a game set in it without that specific information. The info in the modules is sketchy, leaving a the DM having to do a lot of work.

I don't mind doing a little work but it'd be great if they could update the web site with a little more information on the geography and cultures. I don't even need stats. Just a little bit more on who's who and what's what.

i don't care about a Monster Manual Clone. I don't NEED monsters, I NEED setting information, backtround data, rules on the land and so forth. Yes they are making this monster gimmick for cross platform use. Can I blame them? No. It's money in the bank. Do I fault them for not looking out for the majority of people that could care less about creatures and more about the realm that they created? Yes.

Nix spending the time building the critter book and complete the sourcebook. You will lose people who bought the modules and want more. The minbook is a stopgap for them, yes. It needs to be free and downloadable and then allot of the people who are waiting can be saited. I know I will be. But i REFUSE to spend a lick of money on a product this is gonna be half-shot put together to make the fans happy.

Focus on your core group and branch out from there...

I agree with you. I would much have preferred to see the setting book before the Monsternomicon.

However I think you will find that the Monsternomicon is more than just a critters book. In fact PP are putting a lot at stake saying it not that. It will contain many of the things that you specificed from a setting book including adventure hooks, IK inhabitants ecology information, prestige classes, skills, new PC races and setting information. The preview of the Bridge Troll showed some promise. So reserve your judgement until you see it.
