Okay So I'm pretty sure that It's a percentile system right? that said do the skills and such match up with D20 pretty well? I'd kind of like to do a Discworld conversion and want to know how hard it would be....

GURPS is a D6 system. I used to own the Gurps3E Basic Set but never ran a game, only read through it. From memory I suspect it might be a bit hard to convert though by no means am I absolutely certain.

not %.

3d6.

I don't think it would be to hard to convert to 3E, but it would not be soemthing you could do in a few minutes or anything.

The skill system would convert easily, but the skill to skill translation would not be.

For example, each spell and weapon prof in GURPS is its own skill.

If you're looking for quick translations you could take the GURPS skills, subtract 10, then treat those as the total d20 skill bonus. These will be much smaller than d20 though so you might want to double them. Just use the best combat skill for BAB.

GURPS is a 3d6 bell curve based system. Char Gen is point based and complex rather like Champions if you are familiar with it.

The core rules are pretty simple but there are a lot of options and I do mean a lot of options, 20 books or so including monster books and the like.

The game is pretty much oriented to realism, combat is deadly and combat rounds are action based 1 second long.

I love the game but YMMV and if you are a die hard DND'r it takes a lot of getting used to.

For power level, my imperfect analogy is a starting GURPS character at the default level of 100 points is roughly 4th level. Over a characters career you may gain 100 points and be about 8th level.

Gurps uses 3d6 for nearly everything.

It would be very difficult to convert to d20.
Basically, you would have to start from scratch, using the Gurps stuff as starting ideas. You might have better luck if you were a Gurps expert, but since you aren't, you may as well convert from the Discworld novels straight to D&D. That would probably be easier.

Geoff.
