Hmm. PM to you is away. I may be laboring under a misapprehension.

Seen and responded to. I know I raved so much about the HoB that it reads like a pitch. Not my intention ... but this book deserves the raving (but hopefully not the ranting) more than any other I've seen to date.

In any case, I'm more interested in making this book known to folks than getting too upset about where the threat gets moved to. After all, their products don't look it but Kenzer & Co is a small company... I just hope that people aren't living under the misconception that HackMaster is a "joke game" that's too silly to play. Go look at the page demos for the HoB. This book is deadly serious and is worth the attention of the general gaming community. :)

After chatting a bit I'm comfortable that the original poster is a fan, which makes me wrong about it being a press release. My apologies for the confusion. I'm sliding it back to General so that it can be discussed properly.

Fasten seatbelts, all arms and legs inside the thread. Here we go.

Appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, yes, yes! I agree, this book is fantastic. Much like everyone else around here, I have shelves and shelves of RPG books, but NONE of them come close to the awesomeness of the new Hacklopedia of Beasts, not one. I look at some of the other RPG books that I've purchased in the past and compare them to the quality of the HoB, and I feel cheated and wish I could get my money back.

ok... Seeing that monster preview makes me want to give Hackmaster another look.
I remember back in the day when Hackmaster the RPG first came out, I liked the idea because of Knights of the Dinner Table, but I flipped glancingly through the book at my LGS, and saw that it looked almost exactly like AD&D 2E. That turned me off right away.
Looking at that monster page, I see alot of love, knowledge of what fans want, and a general love of their work.

If I ever get money again, I'll have to look into hackmaster

Wow, that preview was amazing.

With Hackmaster originating in the Knights of the Dinner Table comic, I'd always assumed it had just been a detailed spoof and not so much a playable game (or at least, I never took it seriously enough to actually try playing it). This really seems to show they're serious and it's designed to be used.

Nice preview.

However:
1. Nice background do not improve legibility.
2. Colorful graphic stats are not easily transferable into electronic media, not to mention they are not easy on printers.
3. Slight layout error (first line text indent after headers).

It's still a nice preview.

Regards.

You're right, it is designed to be used. Last night was another session of our group's HackMaster campaign (I'm the GM) and we are having so much fun playing this game. I've been letting them explore around in the mountains of the Kingdoms of Kalamar setting (HM's official setting) and simply running random encounters using monsters from the HoB. With so much detailed information on each monster, it is a joy and a breeze to run exciting encounters.
