Game of the Year
Hey everyone,
For the curious, HackMaster is based on a license we acquired from Wizards of the Coast for first and second edition AD&D. In Knights of the Dinner Table, HackMaster always was a parody of these earlier editions, so when the opportunity arose to acquire that license, we jumped at the opportunity. Finally, the HackMaster game that so many people had asked for could finally be made properly.
I find that HackMaster serves as a nice complement to 3E, as each game does certain things well (IMO). When I'm in the mood to make an insanely detailed character with all sorts of quirks, flaws, skills and talents, I turn to HackMaster. I love the Honor and Alignment systems, and the general attitude that pervades the entire work.
I love 3e too. It's rules are streamlined yet complete, and it has made armor, multi-classing and saving throws MUCH better than in previous editions.
I also enjoy writing HackMaster a great deal. Taking on the voice of Gary Jackson can be quite liberating, as you can (and should) be as obnoxious and arrogant as you want.
Anyone with any questions about HackMaster is welcome to email me at
