Half-Dragon Skill points confusion.

Okay, I don't have much time before work so here is the down and dirty. I found an awesome picture on the internet and want to create a PC off of it. Its a Zebra Anthropomorphic half-dragon. THAT is a mouthful.

The problem I have is this: The skill points.

See the I had to start with the Anthro skill points. For this build I used the Pony stats in Savage Species because that was the closest thing i could come to a zebra in terms of equine species. Those begin at 2 plus intelligence multiplied by five. Simple enough.

2 + Int x 5.

Next is the Half dragon template. That is six plus intelligence multiplied by racial hit dice plus three. A bit more complicated, but the total dice for the anthro pony is 2d8. So, just two plus three.

6 + Int x (2+3)

Now what i need to know is how to combine these two! Do I just throw them together like this?

8 + Int x 5 x (2+3).

OR do I just complete both equations and then add the two total together for my skill points? Keep in mind, this is BEFORE I add a class into the mix, but that will be far easier to work with since nothing is racial. What am I doing wrong here?? I just have no clue. Please help.

Ew. Furries.

(I suspect that since this all happens when your character is "created" at level 1, you get the template bonus and your race bonus to Int, thus both would affect your skill points. The base skill points... go with the higher value?)

(2 + Int x 5) + (6 + Int x However Many Racial Hit Die You're Being Given With Savage Species).

With the Pony, you're getting your "first level skill point bonus" of x4, and since skill points are not retroactive, no extra is granted from being a Half Dragon.

if I recall, Half Dragon does not actually get racial hit die in the Monster Manual, so you wouldn't actually gain any skill points (having never gained a racial hit die of Half Dragon).

Even if you create a character with the template, you are always considered the base creature first, which is why you only get the first level multiplier for the base creature.

Thanks Sekhmet (and you others) that really helped me out. As far as "Ew furries" goes, don't knock until you've tried it. lol. Now, for your viewing pleasure! I have permission from the artist to use this artwork for all my roleplaying in the future. He's primarily focused as an artificer.
