A simple question: what book is it in? One of my players wants one, and I've no idea where to find it.

While I'm here, I may as well ask whether it's broken or not...

Also Dragon Disciple in the DMG becomes a half dragon in the course of completing the prc

It's a template from the Monster Manual. You can find it in the SRD or System Reference Document. No, I don't think it's particularly broken. It's a strong template for fighter types, but not broken. Link below:

if you also have the draconomicon you'll find other varieties (including breath weapons, immunities,...) for the half-dragon template
for example the half brown-dragon or the half deep-dragon

I suggest allowing it only via the Dragon Disciple PrC for PCs, and not just allowing them to take the template and say that's that.

I don't think that it's broken. It carries a hefty level adjustment though. As was mentioned previously, the Dragon Disciple PrC might work better.

i concur with was. +3 level adjustment is quite a bit. and IMHO, only allow the base dragons for the template; if the PC wishes to use the draconomicon, roleplay it, make a "character family tree" to justify going into dragon disciple because some of those half dragons (like shadow) are potent in the hands of a PC.
