Half-elf and Religion

Hi all :p

Well, I'm creating a new character and i think to make a cleric. But I don't know which god/goddess choose for my half-elf. Anybody has an idea? I look for a god with "knowledge" and "travel" like domain spell but it's not obliged. :uhoh: Thx very much for your help.:o

I suppose it depends on which setting you're playing. I don't see any core deities with those two domains. Oghma from FR has them or alternatively you could go with the Sovereign Host patheon from Eberron. Lastly there's a custom deity or a 'philosophy' where you could hand pick some domains; subject to DM approval of course.

Oghma from Forgotten Ralms comes to mind, but as Targos said, depends on setting. If your DM is allowing anything from anywhere, ask him to provide you a list to pick from.

Thx you very much for your help. Oghma seem a good idea. I think to take like domain :
Knowledge or travel or balance. What do you think about that? it's a good idea or not ?

In fact, I'd like to play a half-elf priest, traveler and diplomat. And I think of taking the prestigious class divine oracle. It can be funny.

MMmmmm savras it's not bad also....

Cloistered Cleric of Fharlanghn.

Heh, assuming you can get past the irony of a cloistered priest of the god of roads and travel, that is.

A cleric without any patron deity could be an interesting option (role playing wise). A half-elf tend to be exposed to multiple cultures. So he may find that pursuing a philosophical cause is more important than worshiping one specific god.

The PHB specifically says that you can be a cleric of a concept, rather than a god. You can take virtually any domains you want at that point.

Of course, if he does play in the Realms, this is null and void, since you need a patron deity to get any divine magic.

Not all DMs allow that, regardless of what the PHBs say. I still run into a lot of people who will go on for hours about how stupid it is to not have a power actively providing you with spells.

"Good" is a power.

And of course it can be argued that your experience, faith and piety are the things that grant you spells, the gods aren't really involved all that much (otherwise, your spell level would not depend on your level but on the divine rank of your deity. Your deity has Divine rank 16? You got caster level 16....
