Half Fiend Warmage......thoughts!

I am playing in an Evil Forgotten Realms campaign and having trouble with my character concept, so I was hoping to get some creative thoughts!

P.S. The DM is encouraging (but not requiring) the group to take the Shadow Weave magic feat for reasons he can not tell us right now.

The Warmage is a great damage dealing spell caster but many/ most of his spells are Evocation, especially 5th level spells and above. The problem with this and the Shadow Weave feat is the -1 to caster level for evocation and transmutaion spells.

Plus the SLA for the Half Fiend are mostly evocation anyway.

Do you think that a -1 to caster level is that bad? The Half Fiend is already a +4 level adjustment, so I have slower level progression already.

I want to take the Magic in the Blood Feat from forgotten realms so my Half fiend can use all his SLA 3 x day.

I'll comment on yours if you comment on mine (druid/monk)

The Fiend gets a bonus to Intelligence and charisma, so you can get an advantage to several different arcane spell classes; obviously sorcerer and wizard are front choices. Witht eh larger bonus going to int, the wizard may be the better choice. You can focus your spells away from the evocation school, necromancy has some good damage dealers and fits the evil alignment in flavor.

Alternatively, you could go with Warlock and maybe head towards the acolyte of the skin Prc. This could really be a way to bring out the fiend in the character...

As for the Magic in the blood feat, it should work well with the SLAs; the -1 caster level shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I might shy away from evocation and transmutation heavy spells/classes (war mage). Definately look at the warlock.

Overall, the fiendish caster should fit the evil archetype pretty nicely.

warmage spells are ALL evocation I would take practiced caster as damge control even if I wouldn't get the full benifit of the feat

Practiced Spellcaster only allows you to make up levels for non spell casting class that gives you HIT DICE.

The Half-Fiend Template does not get HD for the Half-Fiend levels, so Practiced Spellcaster will not work with it.
