Half-Human/Half-?Elf?

How many possible half-kinds of Elf does a Half-Elf have the chance of half-being? In your game, is there one particular Elf-type of Half-Elf that makes up the Elf half of a Half-Elf? When you pick up a gaming supplement, before reading half way through do you see it half-defined in half-terms of "what half-type of Elf", is it left to the DM or is it half-assumed, upon further reading or investigation to be, of half by half-default, a half-particular half-type of Elf-half?

Half-curious... ;)

Half elf is half standard, PHB elf. Since the core books don't deal with suplliments and the only other types of elves have all appeared in non core books, that is the only way it can be.

Of course people can rule 0 it to be any half elf have human.

Of course, the Core rules say one thing that needs to be applied to player characters, but what about the setting? The default setting has six races of humans and six types (High, Gray, Wood, Wild, Valley and Aquatic) of Elves.

Other settings have more than one type, generally speaking, so once you get beyond the Core Rules for the PCs, and have to apply those rules to a setting with NPCs, and decisions have to be made...

Since we already have half-dragon, half-celestial and half-field templates, I see no reason why we couldn't also have a half-elf template. This template could be applied to any corporeal creature, much like the others, because elves are free-spirited and don't have any prudish human foibles about choosing a mate. I haev teh brilliant ideas.

Brilliant at avoiding the question, hoiNg!

Which type of Elf is used, by default, in such a template?!?!?!? :(

The default elf of course

Is see no reason to think that the elf is anything but the default elf in any setting. So, a half elf is half default human half default elf. I think if the elf side was something other then stadard, the half elf would look and have different abilities.

But there's more to the game than just the stats, isn't there? What of standardized skill-sets for NPCs so that various types of Half-Elf Templates can be applied to a randomly encountered Half-Elf at the game table? What of Feats? Equipment? Allies and Enemies? I need resolution! I need to go to my QUIET PLACE! :o

And what is the default Elf and Default Human by definition of type anyway?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

There is much mor ethen stats. However, the extra (and in my opinion more interesting) stuff depends too much on individual gaming style and campaign style. I could post this stuff, but it would be according to how I like it and not neccisarily true for others and their games.

The default human and elf are the ones that are in the PHB.

Erm... My apologies.

Mods- Please move this thread from the "General" to the "No Discussion" Forum where Crothian appears to prefer it reside... ;)

So, enlighten me! What do you do? What do you use? How do you make it easier on yourself to "wing it" during a game?

No discussion? There is a discusion, it's just I don't think your asking the questions you want answered. You want to know what a hlaf drow/half human would look like. It would not be the same as the half elf write up in the PHB. Same if you use any of the other non standard elves, or a non standard human.

What do I do? I have use the PHB half elf most of the time. I've only ever used one half elf that was not standard elf stock. I just replaced the abilities with what made sense at the time. I'd have to look it up to get specifics.
