Half-Human/Half-?Elf?

I asked a number of questions in an effort to begin a discussion of what people feel is the definitive and also how they handle it beyond the rules. Let me know what you find when you get the chance. In the meantime, what do other folks do, I wonder... :)

Actually, I personally think that half-elves of other than the default elf will still look pretty much like the standard half elf. Unless there's a serious ECL on the elf, it's probably got stat mods no larger than +2. You really shouldn't split that to a +1. So, the stat mods get "washed out".

And really, what else is there? Vision. Some minor skill and save mods. Elf-blood. the best of all possible favored class choices.

You could fiddle with the save and skill mods, I suppose. The rest? I don't see as I'd bother with anything other than "flavor text" cosmetic changes.

In the Realms, there are two (or maybe three) kinds of half-elves mentionned.

Half-surface elves. Standard half-elves. Their human parent can be any human; and their elf parent can be any surface elf, this change nothing. Stat-wise, exactly like the standard half-elf, except for size because it's FR. The thing that change (hair, eye and skin color) depends on the parent but don't affect any number.

Half-dark elves. A half-drow is exactly like a standard half-elf (except for his greyish skin and whitish hair) but has darkvision 60 ft. instead of low-light vision.

Half-sea elves (that's the one I'm not sure they're mentionned at all). They are roughly like standard half-elves, but maybe they got one thing more (related to water) and one thing less.
