Halflings in full plate

Is it really full plate if it's on a Halfling? Wouldn't it be half plate by default?

If you give Half-Plate to a Halfling then it's just quarter plate.

Ever since I got some perspective on just how small and light a halfing is (having two kids), I just can't take the little things seriously any more. At least LotR hobbits had some heft to them. Something that small in plate just can't have the muscle mass to move full plate around.

Ever wrestled a 50 lb chimpanzee? Or, to ground this in something that's a more common experience, say even a 50 lb hunting dog?

If we assume that halflings have bone and muscle densities and distribution typical of a chimpanzee or gorilla, then they would despite their mass still have strengths that met or exceeded that of many humans. It's not hard to imagine a 40-50lb race with muscle strength comparable to humans two or three times their size. The lack of overall mass might hamper them in a melee, but certainly wearing armor and poking hard you with something sharp would be very doable.

This would also explain halflings extreme discomfort around water. Halflings built to an ape body plan would be less bouyant than humans. Compared to humans, they'd sink like rocks, and would have to use all that strength to flail at the water to stay afloat.

Deeper, deeper into the earth go the goblins, singing songs of avarice as they haul their bloody loot down, down through caverns cut out by magmen when the world was still hot, down through tunnels burned clean by purple worms, down through the halls of empty cities never once lit by sun or star, down and down more still until they push through the grass and into the Hollow, blinded by the dazzling Core and heaping their ill-got treasure into the Great Pile for the Thing That Comes...

Nonsense.
A well-made, custom-fitted full plate harness wouldn't encumber a halfling any more than an adult human sized armour encumbers an adult human.

Even better: the average human's heavy load is 100 lbs, and the average male's weight is 175 lbs. The average halfling's heavy load is 60 lbs, and average weight is 35 lbs. Think of what that muscle-to-mass ratios implies about how a halfling can move. Slap 25 lbs of armor on, and he's still doing better than Joe the Human.

Halflings are kind of scary strong for their size. Those blunderbusses are probably packing magnum charges!
