Halo 2 versus Half Life 2

I don't have an XBox, so I can only comment on HL2.

Steam went down the first day, so I couldn't play (I did DL the entire game via the service, however). But today it worked fine. The game is very good, but there are lots of load interruptions (in an early swamp buggy racing level, you have to break to load every 5-10 minutes, it seemed). The environments are spectacular and the human faces very realistic. The game itself is on rails, but it gives you an illusion of having choices in a few places. Some of the jumping puzzles are annoying but I haven't hit anything yet where I needed to pause and exit to the Internet to seek help.

So I'd agree, it's not groundshattering, but it's a decent single-player FPS.

Over i year i think. And although i never played it i heard it wasn't as good as the Xbox version, which i didn't quite understand. Pc has so much more power. Might have been a coding issue, i dunno. But the PC version did add in multiplayer options lacking on the xbox, like flying the banshee.

You mean because you don't own an X-box? Halo 2 will be on the PC soon, as well.
For whatever it's worth, my local retailer claims that Bungie has no plans to do a PC version of Halo 2. Of course, he may have just been telling me that to get me to buy the Xbox version now....

When I finish the first Halo and a half dozen other Xbox games I don't have enough time to play, I may consider Halo 2. And when I find the time to dig through the backlog of games waiting to be played on my current PC, I may buy a new one good enough to play HL2.

Time. It's all about time. I need to take a year off and just game.

IMO, the PC version of Halo 1 is dreadfull. The PC version should look better then the console version cause the PC has better hardware capability. But the PC version looks much duller and choppier. And I've seen it on high end machines.

You are correct, sir. I was confused: Bungie and Microsoft have made no announcement about the possiblity of Halo 2 for the PC. It hasn't been mentioned or thought of, from what I can tell.

Time...time....what was that again?

I don't have an X-Box, so I can't comment on Halo 2. I played the Halo 1 demo and wasn't impressed, though I admit having a bit of a negative bias because I had to wait over a year for it to be ported to the PC. The graphics weren't that great and nothing seemed to stand out to justify the hype or the wait.

Half-Life 2 is an amazing game. The graphics are crisp and bright and photorealistic is some places. It's a linear game, but maintains the illusion of openness. The physics are outstanding, so good that its almost unremarkable because everything just works right. Various puzzles make good use of the physics so its not just window dressing. The load times are horrible, but I can forgive this because the game is linear (no need to go back) and the textures must be huge. I read horror stories about registering on Steam, but it only took a couple of minutes for me. The actual install took a while (5 CDs). I have a P4 2.6Ghz and Radeon x800 Pro and I can run it in 1600x1200, so its not that much of a hog. I experience occasional stutter which doesn't seem to go away if I turn down the resolution.

Overall I'm extremely happy with it.
