Hancock

My wife and I went to see Hancock last night. I wasn't expecting much. Every review I had read gave it very middle of the road ratings. But it is Will Smith and a super-hero movie. So I wanted to see it on a big screen.

I was completely surprised. This is a very solid and quite enjoyable movie. Not great cinema mind you but better than Indy 4 or Wanted. I'd say Smith does just as good a job as Norton did in Hulk. And the explanation for why Hancock has powers is good for a comic book theme. I bought his angsty character and the drama. The action scene were fun and even novel.

One thing though, I know they cut scenes. At least two that were in the trailer. And another involving a sex scene I had read about online. When I say "cut" I mean after the film was released. So I will be looking for an uncut DVD in a few months.

I think there's a Hancock Thread around here already...

I liked the movie, too.
I could see a kind of twist was to be expected, but I thought the twist would be more "romantic-comedy" like - She falls (begrudingly, after some quarrels?) in love with Hancock, and Hancock and his marketing guy get in a conflict and disband, or something like that. The twist we got was still surprising enough for me...

I found the played the attraction between the two pretty well - it was not so subtle as to miss it, but it was ambiguous enough to make it difficult to predict what would be happening exactly.
