Happy Chinese New Year!!!

Oh come on. They must count the years somehow. How else would they know how many times that cycle has gone through? Or are you suggesting they just say "long time ago"?

Come on, nothing beats "long time ago".

Ok, seriously, the CHinese use the stem-branch system.

A year is a branch - they are named after animals like I said before.

A cycle is a full twelve years, and there are ten stems, named after five elements, each with a "yin" and a "yang" (Wood, Earth etc...)

The year of 2005 is the year of the Wooden Rooster (also called the Green Rooster).

Cycles are then numbered I guess. 2005 is the 4702nd Chinese year.

As a kid, due to a Chinese friend of my dad's, we kids always got 2 New Years parties.

We always looked forward to "the second one" because it had better food :D

Have some bao, blow off some firecrackers, dress in red & gold, and may luck follow you throughout the year! :)
