Happy New Year---In game

I have been in campaigns where we keep logs by the calander of Faerun and some it is not a big deal to keep track of exact dates BUT have you ever celebrated a holiday in game? I do not think I ever have, heard about upcoming holidays etc...but never actually RP'd a holiday----So have you and if so how did it go?

Yup, celebrating the Yuletide season in game is more fun than in RL, and can sometimes be more challenging, too!

I remember one MERP yuletide in Pre-LotR Bree... We were invited to the party, but everyone was expected to bring a dish, and my Elf was out of money! Fortunately for me, the local vicinity produced some frozen berries, which were picked and added to the Christmas feast!

Well, the Halfling holiday known as "Pie Day" should be celebrated in every campaign! And the best way to do so is to not only have the playing characters (especially the halflings) celebrate it, but also serve pie to the players simultaneously!

Other than that, I can't recall when we've had named holidays. One of the players always recognizes his character's birthdays with a party, and I threw big bash when my gnome tavernkeeper turned 400. The playing characters also attend an annual fair every year in mid-August character time, so I guess you could consider that a type of holiday.

As a matter of fact, the last module we played began with a celebration of Midwinter. The party was in Suzail (capital of Cormyr in FRealms) and the two arcane spellcasters were challenged to a friendly Mageduel. This isn't the first time we roleplayed holiday festivities but it is the most recent. They've always been a lot of fun.

Never thought about until you mentioned it, but in my first Darksun campaign, the heroes returned to Tyr one year after Freedom was done and we celebrated Freedom Day. It was the week after July 4th. Weird.....

The festivities consisted of parties, music, non-lethal arena combat and according to my notes...our half-giant's night with another half-giant lead to a child being concieved much later....

Wow- I should look over my notes more often. These are 8+ years old but...wow

In our campaign, we have been arriving at Yuletide almost in sync with the holidays. I had been hoping for some nice shoulder rubbing with NPC's, but none of our characters were invited to any parties. :(

Kind of sad really. I guess we haven't been in town long enough to warrant much attention. I guess that's what happens when you are in a wealthy city largely populated by former adventurers.
