Harper-based storyline? Help!

Jude

First Post
Hey, all. One of those crazy ISRPers here, seeking a bit of advice from fellow gamers and GMs regarding something.

I'm the chick-in-charge for the Harpers of ISRP -- yes, we have an official list of the Harpers for the Forgotten Realms room on ISRP. Currently, I'm batting about some ideas for storylines that will be mostly for these Harpers and characters associated with them. But it's been a while since I GMed Forgotten Realms, so I've come here seeking some inspiration and some suggestions.

I've been thinking to use the Church of Shar to do some nasty-fun things, but I'm open to any other suggestions folks could offer me....and I'm also interested in sucking more folks over to ISRP, because it's just crazy-fun stuff (GMing with the setting defined, but you're essentially your own GM, there's minimal dice, all that kind of fun stuff).

So, yeah. Suggestions?

Sorry, but what does ISRP stand for?

ISRP is Interactive Story Roleplaying (yeah, definately not my title for it, but, eh) -- freeform roleplaying, essentially. We used to have a home as part of WotC's community section, but we moved to Enworld in September. If you visit www.enworld.org/isrp you can find us rather easily.

Here's a plot one might not consider...

A CN temple of Sune has decided that pleasure and hedonism should be everyone's lifestyle of choice. Thus, they invent a specialty mass charm spell that deludes a city into acting as though intoxicated, pursuing whatever it is that makes each individual happy.

Now that I think about it, I realize that there was an old Star Trek: TNG episode with such a plot:

That should give the players something to think about.

.....ack. Just......ack. That's....uhm....yeah. Scary thought, there.

Actually, we're of a need for some actual EVIL going on, really. Not just random Suneite temples going nuts.

....besides, one of the Harpers might get offended by that. He was a hardcore hedonist before he met his wife.

One of the interesting wrinkles I've thrown into the game is the whole Harper schism that WotC has brought to light. You have Khelbun Blackstaff with his splinter group, the Moonstars. If I recall recent history correctly, there was a strong disagreement over the ideas of allying with evil folks to beat back the Shades or the Phaerimm, or something. Khelbun, being a pragmatist, accepted some allies who are less than savory, and caused some outrage among some Harpers.

In my campaign, this has resulted in a few Harpers (not all, not many...just a few) getting a bit...shall we say "extreme"... They are suspicious of people who have too many shades of gray, and are not afraid to say so. This has resulted in a few tense (but very well role-played) encounters with these Harpers.

Now, could perhaps some evil agency, like perhaps the Church of Cyric, be aware of this division and try to sow more discord?

Something to think about... :)

I was aware of the split (and actually have another of the players who knows more about it than I do) and that's an interesting idea. We'll have to see if we can work something out.

I hadn't thought of the Church of Cyric, though. That could be interesting...do you think that the god is still pissed enough with Mystra to ally with another god who could have good reason to not like that goddess as well?

Well, take it to the extreme. Some evil force takes advantage of the hedonist town and loots it/assumes control/takes slaves etc.

And if it offends one of your Harpers, great! They'll have an even bigger reason to put a stop to it.
