That looks pretty cool. I haven't read any of the books yet, so all I know of the story is from the movies (I'm going to keep it that way until the movies are done). It's interesting to see the origins of Voldemort. From what I saw in the trailer, it makes me think that this is how they should have done Wee Vader in Episode I (although I guess in Annakin's case they say he had some good in him once, where Voldy seems to be evil from the start).

Jedi had a set up where folks vulnerable to darkside influence were not supposed to become Jedi. Any question of whether Annakin would go "light or dark" would have gotten him barred from jedi training. The Wizarding World trains magically apt folks because they ARE magically apt and likly to cause problems otherwise. If the Jedi council called the shots at Hogwarts, Slitherin students would receive exactly enough training to not accidentally cast spells and no more.

I'll agree on both counts regarding PoA, but the 4th and 5th movies have done better. Not saying they did great (no Dobby in GoF or Ron's Quiddich sub-plot in OotP), but did far better without being too sweet (first two) or making a total hack-job of the plot (third one). Then again, the 4th and 5th books had a lot of excess stuff that while great to read would only increase the length of the movie to well past the 3 hour mark (which is probably pushing it when the primary target audience are under eighteen).

But didn't Yoda and Mace say that little Anni couldn't be trained for that reason? Qui-gon ended up ignoring them anyway, so why not play up the kid's creepiness factor from the beginning? My guess is that Lucas didn't want things to get that dark from the beginning, and he just didn't see Annikin being like that. I think he wanted him to be more sympathetic.

Personally, I think he could have done both. Sympathetic with a touch of creepy (instead of just whiney, as they decided to go with in eps II and III).

Prisoner of Azkaban the worst? Can I ask you why? I haven't read any of books and indifferently watched the first two movies on cable, but I was blown away by Alfonso Curan's take on Harry Potter. It's one of my top five fantasy films, and only reason I kept watching the series.
