I have seen both versions (the original Sid V. version and a clip from the film with Gary Oldman). The "Sid and Nancy" version is just a re-filming of Sid's original version.Tarrasque Wrangler said:
Huh. Never seen Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle, didn't know about that. I guess the scene in Sid and Nancy is a reproduction of it, but there wasn't anything about making a movie in it. It's just this random weird scene. How surreal was the original? In Sid and Nancy, Sid pulls out a gun and starts blowing away people in the audience. It's hysterical. I'll definitely have to pick up Swindle.
I'll say this--Gary has Sid "dead on"--it's kind of scary. But the one thing Gary could not do was the completely dead look in Sid's eyes. You look at Sid and, well, nothing is there. It's kind of creepy, but maybe he was just on drugs when he filmed it.
And "Sid and Nancy" is directed by Alan Cox, who did "Repo Man" which is one of my favorite films.
