Has anybody picked this up? Necro Legacy by MEG?

First Post
I am wondering if anybody has purchased "Necromancer's Legacy" by Mystic Eye Games.

How's it rate to all the other undead focus'd books out there?

Thanks

I have the PDF that was expanded into this print product. I also have AEG's Undead, Mongoose's Necromancy: Beyond the Grave, and Green Ronin's Secret College of Necromancy.

I would describe is mostly like Green Ronin's work. A good amount of crunch, but with a lot of flavor text. If all you want it generic necromancy stuff, it is take it or leave it. There are a number of necromancy books out there.

The main thing I like about Ambient's work, and Green Ronin's for that matter, is that it all is put into a context. The Necromancer's Legacy is all about just that. The legacy, items, spells, creatures, templates, PrCs that have formed around a long dead(?) necromancer of great power. That context gave me all sorts of ideas for the material in the pdf version, just like Green Ronin's Secret College did. Is it all generic, sure it is. But there is just enough flavor wrapped around it to make it really meaningful.

That is the main thing to me that makes the Ambient products so good. If you have any of their others, you will have a good idea of what to expect. If you do not have any others, and like necromacer ideas and crunchy goodness, this is a good introduction to their work.

All of this is said with a reminder that I only have the pdf version. I have not had a chance (or funds) to get the print version.

OK, I am biased but I think I can still make a valid point about the quality of this product as I had to fork out the company cash to get the book to the print market.

Personally, I think Ambient has an amazing ability to take a topic done many times already and make it feel fresh and innovative. This is what made me love Necormancer's Legacy (as the print version is called). The artists for the print version (Scott Purdy, Patricio Solar, Squidhead, and Frank Krug) got really inspired and captured the feel of the book.

I think you will find the a very good added resource and will get lots of use out of it. Check it out at your local store when it gets there (may be there already) and you will see. It is sweet. This version is expanded on the original a great deal. Heck, I have read it twice myself since it has arrived to my door and I worked with it for months.

A side-point is that "Thee Compleat Librum ov Gar'Udok's Necromantic Artes" (which is the PDF version of this) was nominated for "Best Rules Supplement" by the ENnies committee - high praise indeed - putting it righ tup there with Manual Of The Planes by WotC.

Great Looking Book

My comp copy of Necro came in along with Foul Locales: Beyond the Walls the other day. I was a big fan of the Ambient PDF and had high hopes for the print version. It is greatly expanded with lots of new material and art. It meshes very well with Secret College of Necromancy, and I'm itching to unleash some of it on my PCs!

Must refrain from threats...

Do not yet have copy... of... Necromancer's Legacy...

Must... have....

GAH!

Hound,

Wow, I got mine first. :D Happy day. You're going to love it, especially with your name sprawled across the front cover! Great work on this book. I have to agree with Doug, Ambient has an uncanny ability to add a new twist on ideas that have been beat into the ground. Reading through, I didn't see this as "another" Necromancy book, it gives you the feeling of being "the" Necromancy book. I've been hearing good rumors about Crimson Contracts as well, I'll have to check that out!

Sold!!!

Alright, thanks all for the reviews. I've been sold...now...where to buy it.

My FLGS, plainly, sucks. They'll never get it in. They carry mostly minitures games and card games, very very little RPG stuff.

Where online could I get this? I checked RPGNow.com and amazon.com and couldn't get it at either place.

Hmmm, lemme check svgames.com...be right back...damn...not there either. Where o where can I get this book NOW!!!! :)

Thanks
