Has anyone eliminated the four cores?

In the current game we have a Akashik, a mageblade, and a Samurai...it seems to be going well.

I played in another game that had a Bard, Monk, Barbarian, and a Druid....

You mean, in the world? I had plenty of games without these character types in the PC party - but the world at large usually had Ftr and Rog.

With none of the four, I've run a few. The most recent was two barbarians and a ranger (non-spellcasting).
I've run a lot of games with few of them. We've had campaigns in my group that were very centered on one style that we had just one or two classes in the entire group. There've been all fighter, all rogue, and soon to be an all mage (from EoMR) group.

I'm planning a Grim Tales campaign which uses six generic classes. I'm kind of tired of the class-based system and I'm really digging the GT system.

I'll also be playing a Midnight campaign which doesn't have clerics and wizards.

I once ditched wizard and cleric for sorcerer and mystic, but I think thats not what you meant...

If your asking for parties without those four specific classes (like a barbarian, monk, bard, druid and warlock) I'd say there were a few out there.

If you mean a party that exists without filling all four roles (stealth, healing, blasting, combat) thats been done alot too. (Not having a cleric or a wizard on a party for example).

If you mean without any of those roles (no fighters or fighting types in the whole world) I'd say that is next to impossible. Even Star Wars and Wheel of Time have a class for those who deal in combat (soldier/armsmen) "magic" (jedi/channeler) and sneaky (scoundrel/Wanderer). While it is completely possible to have no caster classes (ask Josh Dyal about his campaign...) I'd think it would hard to explain away no fighters in the world.

Usually though, we end up with at least one of the four on the party though.

never had but I would like to. I had once intended to try a d20 campaign that used any core class from any D&D fantasy related book with the exception of the core classes in the PHB. I think it would be neat to see people think outside the box, so to speak, but it didn't work.

There are a whole lot of cool classes in other published books that are not WotC, but get overlooked. I would like to be in a campaign with no core classes in the PHB. It would be a lot of fun.

I'm currently firing up a "testbed" campaign which I plan to use to try out all the alternate rules I don't know if I want to introduce into my regular game. Anyway, I disallowed all the PHB core classes, and made a list of all the other classes I had that I wanted to see played, which came out like this:

Akashic (Arcana Unearthed)
Artificer (Eberron)
Commander (Path of the Sword)
Defender (Midnight)
Delver (Path of Shadow)
Favored Soul (Complete Divine)
Gunmage (Iron Kingdoms)
Gunslinger (Forgotten Archetypes)
Hexblade (Complete Warrior)
Hunter (Path of the Sword)
Musketeer (Sorcery & Steam)
Scholar (Unlikely Heroes)
Swashbuckler (Complete Warrior)
Oathsworn (Arcana Unearthed)
Outdoorsman (Path of the Sword)
Warlock (Complete Arcane)
Warmain (Arcana Unearthed)
Wildlander (Midnight)

I got a Gunslinger/Gunmage and an Akashic, which ought to be an interesting game.

How did it go?

I plan on eliminating the Cleric and Paladin in my next campaign. Sorcerer and Wizards get access to all spells. I have never liked the instant gratification for faith and religious roleplaying that clerics and paladins give you. I like my religious flavor/action to come a little harder and be less obvious than core rules.

I'll let you know how it goes. :)
