Has anyone toyed with Harry Potter d20 rules?

In the first movie, Professor Quirrel (sp?) creates a wall of fire with the snap of his fingers, no wand in sight. I don't recall about the book, though.

Okay, okay I give already

Yeesh. ;)

So we clearly have a lot of HP fans here (and I don't mean Hewlett-Packard). Maybe EN World is the place to do such a project. Obviously it would have to be fan-only since JKR and Warner Bros. would not be amused if we tried to make a buck from it. Before anybody asks, I am not volunteering to head up such a project. I have neither the time nor the talent. But I'd be more than willing to contribute some effort to it.

Well, not to get too technical:

But in OotP, Harry uses the lumos incantation to light his wand. But the wand is two feet away from his hand at the time. Make of that what you will, but I suspect all it means is Harry is much more powerful, potentially, than the other main characters.
Perhaps because he is attuned to his wand? Remember, the wand chose him. ;)

I have no doubt that Harry Potter is powerful. Wand-maker Ollivander did say he is destined to do great things.

Professor Magonical (sp?) head of Griffondore can make the griffondore staircase of DUmbledore's move without use of a wand...

See ya.

And the fact that she's a professor at that Academy means she knows the enchanted staircase intimately.

Just so you know, I want wands to be as different as the D&D versions, which is a charged magic item of one or two spell effects.

I don't understand what you mean. Are you saying you DO want HP wands to be charged items, or you don't? I would think they would be something completely different from a D&D wand.

I agree completely. In fact, I don't remember seeing any "charged" items in the books so far. Though as we've seen my memory is far from perfect :)

I think there have been one or two single-use items.

I think wands should serve as foci for spells (in lieu of material components), but also have some impact based on the kind of wand you have. Wands have been described as "excellent for charms", so bonuses to schools might be appropriate. Maybe even introduce Wand feats, that every character may select upon creation of a wizard/witch which applies to how his/her wand functions.
