Has the RPGA failed?

I think I'll give it another try myself.

I've been tempted to startup a new RPGA group in my area with an emphasis on being player friendly (especially new player friendly). Of course, I'll need to investiage how to go about this first.

Since you're in Texas :)

If you're thinking of trying Living Greyhawk I would sign up for the local LG Yahoo list to find players or contacts in the area. Texas is in the Bandit Kingdoms. The Bandit Kingdoms Yahoo! List at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bandit_kingdoms/

there maybe players in your area. If you're thinking of ordering games to run you'd need to sign up for the Herald test or one of the players in the area might be a Herald level DM and can order events for the group.

Good luck.

After speaking with Eric from Paradigm at Gen Con, I think I'm going to have to kook into this a bit more. It sounded like there was a ton of great games being run throuh the RPGA and that like some card games, the players could actually effect the game setting.

Now I just have to start looking into it...

FYI, the ability to affect the setting is a feature of Living Arcanis. I don't think that other campaigns have that aspect.

Depends on how you define "affect the setting". LG has this aspect, but with over 10,000 players... the scope and scale of the ability to affect is often small. I've been involved in LG interactives where the results appeared in future regional adventures. There have been temples founded by players that become encounter sites in future regional mods.

But will any of this get published into print as an accessory by a company to be bought by customers? Nope...

Many RPGA campaigns have "Critical Event Summaries", or something like that, in which the DM is asked to report key events within the module (e.g., did the BBEG get away? Did the PCs uncover this secret?), and return the summary to the campaign administration. This then can affect the direction of future modules within the campaign.

Unfortunately, most of the campaigns that I've seen do this only use the CES from the premiere runs of the module, or, at most, the first month or two that it's available for play.

This is what I meant actually. I know that many of the various LG triads do a great job working in results of special events into future story arcs. But you will not change a future edition of the World of Greyhawk.
