D&D 4E Has there been a Charm Spell in 4e?

The thing that bothers me about the rituals, is that they've now created rituals that can only be cast by a specific class (Bard). All of the other ones are open to anyone who can acquire the ritual and provide the components. Bards get those, plus their own. That seems to make long duration charm effects their exclusive bailiwick.

I don't really mind this much since bards are the charismatic types who have inherited much of the enchanter schtick from the older edition wizards. However, I doubt this will be their exclusive purview once psionics are released.

Well at this point it has me thinking about dropping my Swordmage multi on my Feylock, so that I can take those rituals that are certainly in the flavour of The Fey.
 

Only if you don't rest. You can't rest if you're sustaining a power (PHB 278).

Save ends effects don't usually require sustaining, the last until the person saves. If they can't save, the effect never ends.

That said, as dominate appears to a round by round sort of thing in 4e, you might rule that a dominated creature can't be given long drawn out commands.

Yeah, whoever put those in must have missed that memo explaining that the entire point of making rituals open to all was so that no one class had the "I solve problem X spell" exclusively. Wizards really need to give whoever made those a kick in the pants.

My brain has already removed that limit. And kicked them pants metaphorically ... 4e needs to be loyal to it's design goals ... they werent hazy.

Well technically, the design goal was to not make a single class absolutely needed, not that all features are available to all classes.

Those bard only spells are nice to have, but are hardly essential and can be accomplished by other classes using diplomacy, bluff, intimidate, or even plain ole roleplaying.

Bard only spells aren't a problem, though I do think it offends some that feel that the wizard class should be the master of all rituals.

It actually made me retrain my Warlock's multi from Swordmage to Bard, so that I can get access to rituals that are so Fey in character that it hurts to read them. Fortunately I didn't have any other feats or powers that were effected because I had retrained Intelligent Blademaster to Melee Training - INT when it became available. I'll miss that +3 to AC once a day, for sure, but have picked up Majestic Word to balance that out.

Yes, I agree, that kind of stuff does feel so Fey that it hurts, as opposed to all that "BAMF!"-ing...
