Hasbro bought Google?

So, I've been an active gamer, and loyal customer to the Dungeons & Dragons name for some time. When I'm in the states, I buy books by the fistful. I've been in Central America, in a country where Amazon won't ship, and been watching this whole thing evolve.

With all the debate going on, I've sorta settled with the pirates on this one. In fact, I've been hoping they win. I'd be happy to pay for a PDF while I'm out of the country, but apparently, I can't do that legally any more.

Anyway, 10 minutes ago, while doing my usual google search for "arcane power", I discovered something peculiar & disconcerting. For a day, the top 20 hits had been pretty much the same sites, the usual torrent suspects. But now, it would seem Hasbro, in their attempts to fight piracy, has somehow convinced google to change their top hits to WotC accepted links.

Here, I thought google was the most democratic thing going. Sure, they sold out, and you can buy google-cred to have your links hop to the top, but this is preposterous! Google, who dictates the truthiness and importance of information, sold out. & who do you sell out to? The man.

This act sorta broke the camel's back. I don't like the man. I like to see the man get beat. I for one, hope the pirates win. Go get 'em, boys!

In my opinion, google prioritizes the sites that have the greatest number of most recent hits. I don't doubt there is some computer algorithm to track which sites to put first and which to put in the middle or last.


Likely, those sites have actually just gotten more hits, and more frequently, lately.

And that's it. (in my opinion).

I'm pretty sure that Google has a policy of removing these kinds of things from their search results if the owner of the property requests it - a policy based on the DMCA I believe. No conspiracy theories required - unless they're about who wrote and paid for the DMCA, I guess, but that's getting too close to politics.

He's an advertisement company the tries to not be evil, she's a toy manufacturer who slakes her appetite eating other toy manufacturers. They fight crime.
