The sheer irony of bitching about another group of role-players in a thread that wonders whether there is such a thing as a tolerant role-player is just mind boggling.

Joseph - I agree, and frankly I get tired of the bitching from BOTH side of the fence. I mean no reference to you, because you are a voice of reason often on these boards, but the moratorium has to start with each and every one of us, otherwise, it does not EVER stand a chance of happening.

And the point is, yes, there is a lot of heat that sometimes passes between fans of Storyteller and non-Storyteller systems. Some people just feel the heat is thrown their way first, without provocation - hence statements like the one you responded to.

I play multiple game systems, and I see little difference between them - NONE of them model reality, nor facilitate role-playing better than real life. and quite frankly, I thank the powers that be for this, because real life is what these games are NOT supposed to model.

In my experience, every derisive comment that has come to me from Storyteller fans about D&D has been without provocation, or in some cases without knowledge that I play D&D. I have been extolled before on the virtues of Storyteller products over "lame D&D" without a single reference to D&D prior.

And yes, I know that not all players of WW products are like this, just like not all D&D players are single-minded slack-jawed idiots who create one-dimensional characters, but sometimes, just sometimes mind you, it grates just enough to get defensive about it.

It usually begins when one person makes a derogatory statement, which is defended whether by fact or by insult, which then catches another bystander in the crossfire for the "other side", who then responds, and before you know it, it's like a volleyball match or a chain lighting spell - both sides are in flames and you can't for the life of you figure out why, especially when they are both on the same team.
