Have you been published in Dragon?

My very first piece of published writing was a letter to Dragon in the mid 80s, rebutting an editorial by Mr. Gygax.

When I first settled into my cubicle at WotC 15 years later, one of the first things I did was track down a copy of the CD-ROM compilation of Dragon and look up that letter.

That Dragon Archive really is a wonderful thing.

Having read the letter (and the article it rebuts), I can't help but wonder if we don't need to nudge the pendulum a bit in the other direction now - a bit more emphasis on the roleplaying once again?

I've been pleasantly pleased with the responses to this thread and it has caused me to fire up the archive and read the articles that have been mentioned or to pull out the issues that I still have and move them to the "reading room" for later reading.

I am surprised at the number of article writers that's very cool. I kind expected more of the I was in the letter column, forums, or sage advice, but maybe those folks haven't weighed in, or have been scared off by the number of article writers chiming in.

I think it would be very cool for someone to cull the articles and the authors out of the thread and put on ENWorld somewhere as a sticky or some such thing. It's a neat bit of D&D history and ENworld pride in its members.

"Forum", DRAGON #193 (May 1993), decrying powergaming and munchkinism. I was young and working through some personal issues. :)

"Saga of the Mists", DRAGON #240 (October 1997) Using the SAGA Rules System for Ravenloft.

"Arcane Lore: Tomes of Forbidden Lore", DRAGON #252 (October 1998) To the best of my knowledge, the only Arcane Lore article to deal with Ravenloft spelbooks.

I submitted an AWESOME prestige class for the Prestige Class contest. And by "AWESOME" I mean "GOD, this is horrible." I thought the flavor for the character was good, but the mechanics sucked so bad, it sucked out the metaphor I was going to use for how bad it was.

Yes...four of them WAY back in the day...

The Wild Warriors - Issue #133

Bonds of Brotherhood - Issue #164

The Other Orientals - Issue #189

To All a Good Knight - Issue #195

Good Times.
