Have you bought the Deluxe Players Handbook?

First Post
Hiya folks,

I'm heading to a Convention (Gaelcon, here in Dublin) at the weekend and I was thinking of buying myself, as a treat, a copy of the Deluxe 4th Edition Players Handbook. However, I was up at my FLGS at lunchtime looking for a copy of it but the owner of the shop said that he didnt have a copy but that he could order one if I wanted it (when I mentioned that I might get it instead at the Convention over the weekend, he explained that the reason he didnt have a copy in was because his supplier warned him off stocking it because, apart from the Silver Cover, the book is almost identical to the regular PHB, i.e no leather cover etc., and probably wouldnt sell as its not worth the price tag!). I was kinda looking forward to a 'flashy' version of the book for my use, as DM, but if the actual supplier is putting the shop off stocking the book then I'm a little concerned. The shop has a great selection of 4th Ed material - I've gotten the core books, screen, H1-H3, P1 and figures there so its interesting to hear that they're not interested in stocking the deluxe books.

Anyone get it yet? If you did buy the book, what do you think of it? Is it worth the money?

Cheers,

Bruns. :)

I haven't spotted any reports of people having one yet. I've been curious.

What we do know is that it includes errata, so the new stealth rules are in, along with some other smaller changes.

We also know that that in future printings, the non-deluxe versions will include the errata. Which is excellent news. I'm still unclear if WotC will be doing this with any other books, or just the core?

I'd assume it also has superior binding, I hope?

Watching this thread closely. I remember reading that errata was NOT going to be included in the deluxe editions...

I would definitely pick up a PHB and MM if it included the errata currently available.

Man. Previous editions, I got the PHB that everyone used, and I or other players bought more as time went on. For 4e, me and every one of my players bought a PHB at release. This errata thing erks me.

And my FLGS owner is choked that the deluxe editions aren't leather bound or anything. Foil cover, gilded pages and errata hardly deserves that kind of price jack up.

From the D&D Q&A over at WotC's:
Q: Do the Deluxe Core Rulebooks contain updates?

A: Yes. The deluxe editions incorporate material from the update documents, including the stealth rules. They also feature embossed foil covers, premium gilt-edged pages—even a set of sticker strips to use as page markers to quickly reference the pages you flip to most (page 277 of the Player’s Handbook, we’re looking at you!).

The only time I have ever bought Deluxe editions is when I found them marked off 50% or better. Definitely nothing anyone needs to rush and buy. Be patient. Keep your eyes open.

My deluxe version of the PHB arrived yesterday. It indeed has the updated text from the errata. I haven't had time yet to compare it to the standard PHB.

I got it from Barnes & Nobles with my member discount and a 20% coupon, so with tax it came to $42. At $75 a copy, I couldn't bring myself to buy it, but $42 is not bad.
