Have you ever found employment while in a bar?

As the title suggests. It's such a staple of D&D that I was recently wondering how it first developed. I'd like to know if anyone here has ever had something similar happen to them in real life. So, ever been kicking back in a bar enjoying some suds with your buddies only to have a stranger walk up to your table and offer you a cash job? :)

Not real jobs, but those aren't being offered to your adventurers, are they?

"You, young man! We desperately need people to chop wood and wash our clothing. The job pays 2 silver a day. Can we count on you?"

Nah.

But in the real world, look how often people are trapped with those "I want you to kill someone" stings where they met the undercover officer or informant in a bar.

I've heard that people are looking for work in these sorts of establishments. They approach patrons with words like "hey, honey, wanna have a good time." I'm not sure what this tells us about adventurers, but there's a moral in there somewhere.

I've never sought employment in a bar. But if I were a treasure hunter, assassin, tomb robber, or dragon slayer, I probably wouldn't advertise in the local paper.

You've got it all wrong .. we're commoners so there's no point asking us ;)

Actually, I'm pretty sure I'm a level 2 Expert with elite ability scores, but there's still no way you're taking me on a lich-slaying expedition. No max hit points at first level, you know!

;)

No? Yes?! I actually got my jobs through an application and a resume. I hope my D&D hero doesn't have to worry about paper work, "section b, paragraph A, says I must submit for random negative energy screenings. They assure me it's strictly confidential."
