Have you ever ripped off an idea & passed it off as your own?

I think this sums things up well enough:

many years ago, in a letter to Dragon, I said something along the lines of 'all good DMs are borrowers'... God knows I certainly did it... everything from comic books to fantasy movies/books to real life battles (Rorke's Drift!), and even a couple of John Wayne movies.

But claiming they were totally my own ideas? nah... if anyone asked, I fessed up as to where I got them...

:D

I borrow constantly from different sources. I never try to pass it off as my own and most of the borrowed material is pretty obvious. For instance, in a homebrew campaign I am designing now the dwarves worship Reorx while the gnomes worship Gond and the minotaurs worship Sargonnas. I also have an organization modeled after the solamnic knights and the knights of neraka. (of course the names are different, but the reference is pretty clear.) The organization modeled after the solamnic knights follows the Oath and the Measure. (this I did not change although they worship gods from FR such as helm, tyr etc. etc.)

I would never claim an idea as my own and whenever I give reading material to my players I do mention from which sources I will be borrowing.
