Have you given your kids fantasy names?

Guilty as charged. After naming our first child a solid 'Nathan,'

OK. True story I wasn't going to tell, but you forced me:

My brother is named Adam (and also used "Adam Bomb" as a nickname in grade school), and named his second child "Nathaniel".

The story gets better, though, because he convinced his wife to use "Adam" as the kid's middle name. His wife doesn't read comic books, so I haven't asked her if she knows who my brother's favorite superhero is.

woah. My son is a Nathan Adam too. I didn't know about Captain Atom though.

When I was in medical school, a young mother, spying the contents of her tray of 'clear liquids', named her newborn twin sons Oranjello and Lemonjello.

I call shenanigans! SHENANIGANS!

I told people I was gonna name my boy John Chewbacca Lee. But we had a girl instead and named her Annabelle.

I have always told my g/f if we have a daughter I want to name her Asuka Oni. Asuka after the character from Neon Genesis Evangelion, the popular Anime series. And Oni from the japanese for Devil, because I used to refer to my g/f as you little devil or similar terms. She wasn't to pleased with either of those.

Well our first is due in January but of unknown sex. We have names already, however.

My wife games, but every time I joked around with names like Gandalf, Aragorn, etc she would stand resolute and steadfast against it.

I then tried to get Samiel through (as one of the forms of Samuel) and she caught on to my little game (long story but it involves a brother in law who doesn't understand the meaning of "no sorry we are not interested").

Well she finally found a name she liked if it is a boy. A nice Celt/Welsh name, Taliesin. Even after I told her people would think we went the fantasy angle she stood firm that she chose it on its sound and feel and historical ancestry.

So Taliesin it is.

My daughter's name won't be* "fantasy" or "legendary", but it will be exotic. I'm not going to spill it right now, but it's the name of a high school friend of my wife's; asian; and means "woman with a crown". Took us ages to find that out; it's apparently a combination of two words. It also means something like "favored daughter" in another language.

*Future tense is intentional. My wife is due tomorrow. :D

Cheers
Nell.
