Have You Improved Your D&D Miniatures?

The only problem with a wash on these is the paint is so glossy that most washes "bead" heavily.
Ooh, that does sound like a problem. I assume the glossy paint they're using is more durable?

I considered the idea, but at the cost of one feat, "Improved D&D Miniatures" doesn't really do it for me. I'd rather just save the feat, and stick with the basic D&D Miniatures in spite of the penalties. I don't even really use regular D&D Miniatures enough to justify the improved feat, anyway.

As I only have a starter set, I haven't improved any of those, but I did tinker with some of my Mage Knight figures (of which I have 100s).

Using a knife, I cut off the weapons from some figures, and reattach them to different figures, using superglue.

I'm not sure how feasible that is with the D&D figures.

I also used a can of black spray paint to create an army of ninjas

I repainted the half-ord Monk figure for use by a guy in our campaign; I also modified the figure, giving it a greatsword to wield.

All-in-all, pretty easy. Painted the mini with a thinned-down coat of black as a primer, and just painted overtop of that. Converting the figure wa a dream -- one reason to REALLY like soft plastic! -- as I just had to chop one hand off and replace it with a new one.

Well, Rolzup, now I have to ask for a picture!

So you did have to repaint the whole thing. I was hoping they'd be easy to touch up.

I would just try painting directly over sections you want to highlight and seeing how well the paint stays on.

- Scott, who has unprimed and uncoated painted metal minis from 1980 with little 'wear'.
