Haven't played - but I wonder if it is related to the Hawk and Fisher series by Simon Green?

Basically they are two tough honest no nonsense cops in a very corrupt city, Haven, in a medieval, magical, world. Entertaining books - basically six novellas with the same characters and some overlap.

Haven read like a larger version of Sanctuary - if Sanctuary had even more organized crime, and polically based corruption and crime, it would be Haven.

Nope. Downloaded the free "Instant Violence" rules and wasn't really all that impressed.

They did sell the option rights for a film, though. For some bizarre reason I get press releases from the Haven folks. Apparently a rock star photographer is getting into film and optioned the rights to Haven. Whether or not a film deal will result, only time will tell.

I found the books weirdly inconsistent.

Most of the stories were great - quirky, but really enjoyable to read.

But then occasionally I'd strike several chapters in a row where it just seemed he'd... forgotten how to write, or something.

Most notable... I think it was an mass breakout from an asylum, or something similar. All inmates accounted for, except for [insert list of half a dozen freaky oddballs].

And then the proceeded to run into those half dozen oddballs, one at a time, in order, and it just read like a really bad dungeon crawl.

Sad... it really marred the book for me.
